How I Use Household Chores to Help Me Be More Productive

I love having my house organized, but I hate organizing it when I’m busy with work. At least, that’s what I’ve been telling myself — until now.

Keeping a tidy house is absolutely essential for me, but I always felt like I never had enough time to do it properly. That would stress me out. At the same time, a disorganized house would stress me out even more. A lose-lose situation, right?

It wasn’t until I read this great piece of writing by Barack Obama that something suddenly clicked. Actually, the “click” happened while I was folding my clothes.

You see, I’ve always hated folding clothes (but I love seeing them neatly arranged in my drawers). Lately, my partner started folding my underwear too, and I thought, Damn, that looks nice.

“ — But is it really worth folding your underwear?” you might ask. My past self would have said, “ — Absolutely not. It’s not worth the time.”

Then, one day, I was folding his underwear (sorry for the funny example, but this is where it all clicked). Since he folds mine so neatly, I wanted to return the favor. It was close to noon, and I was working from home. Suddenly, all the thoughts I’d been juggling from a productive morning started to fall into place.
